INVESTIGATE

Part of our investigate will require reference to 2 books and 2 Magazines/Journal/Newspapers

 

Today Thursday 25th we will visit the library to identify these reference.

 

You may ask the help of the librarian to get the resource.

 

Remember we are looking for

2 Magazine or Journal or Newspapers

On our topic. This is the topic we want to present in our newsletter.

 

Don’t forget Submission in Hardcopy is on 2nd Thursday before the lesson.

Criterion B: design

Maximum 6

Students are expected to generate several feasible designs that meet the design specification and to evaluate these against the design specification.

Students are then expected to select one design, justify their choice and evaluate this in detail against the design specification.

Guiding Questions

Design
A -Generate A RANGE of feasible designs that meet the design specification (developed at investigate stage)
B- EVALUATE EACH design against the design specification (developed at investigate stage).
C-Select ONE design,

D-justifying your choice and

E-EVALUATE this in detail (FULLY AND CRITICALLY) against the design specification (developed at investigate stage).

Criterion A: investigate


Maximum 6
Investigation is an essential stage in the design cycle. Students are expected to identify the problem, develop a design brief and formulate a design specification. Students are expected to acknowledge the sources of information and document these appropriately.

Guiding Questions
a)  Explain the problem
b) Discuss its relevance
c) Design brief: show how you intend to solve the problem you have presented. This will guide you investigation as you work to develop a more detailed design specification
Critically investigate the problem
a.      Through appropriate (6) internet sources prepared in A bundlr/(2)books/(2) newspapers or magazines
b.      Through discussion with consumers
c.       Through your personal experience
e)      Evaluate the information you have critically collected and investigated. Make sure you cite (in text) the sources and also provide a detailed reference list (APA).
Design specification: make detailed description of the conditions, requirements and restrictions with which a design must comply. This is a precise and accurate list of facts such as conditions, dimensions, materials, process and methods that are important for the designer and for the user. All appropriate solutions will need to comply with the design specification
Describe detailed methods for appropriate testing to evaluate your product against a design specification

MAGAZINE/NEWPAPER REVIEW ACTIVITY AND GROUP TASK

You are provided with a magazine in your groups.
1.   What is the name of the magazine?
2.     What information is provided on the top page?
3.      Who is the intended audience of the magazine?
4.      What is the main information in the magazine?
5.      Explain the Design of the magazine
a.      Layout
b.      Graphics
c.     Colors
Your groups are specialist on the magazine you have reviewed. You are meeting Year 7 Students who are planning to design a magazine on a topic of their choice.
Now that you are informed about the magazine prepare a 5 minutes presentation on the magazine. 
You will need Thursday Lesson 6 to complete the group presentation.
Presentation will be done on Friday Lesson 1

INVESTIGATE

Read the Bundlr with the following resources.

§  What is desk top publishing?

§  Why publish.

§  How to design a newsletter.

§  How to design a magazine.

§  Parts of a magazine.

 

Challenge

§  As a youth you are exposed to many issues happening in your life. You have a responsibility to voice your concerns, opinion and pieces of advice. For example the environment has been one thing that people are concerned about its conservation. Identify an ISSUE of your concern. Design a print media that will present your concern, opinion and advice to a target audience of your choice.

§  For Preparation of Investigate stage read the technical information in the Bundlr and design you own Bundlr with information about your ISSUE.

§  Some guidelines on researching on you topic may include

o   Describe what the issues is about

o   Why the issues is important to you and others

o   What facts are there about the issue?

o   What is being done about the issues?

o   What do you think should be done about the issues?

o   What do you expect to see if people follow you advice?
