Task 2 -Thursday Task

This final task is an individual one.  You will be expected write a reflection on the entire process of design cycle. The paper should:
Start with a self-evaluation: how you think you performed in the project?
Reflections on your performance at each stage of the design cycle
Contain reflections about your general performance in the group activities
Contain reflections about your use of the Design Cycle in doing your work
Express your thoughts/feelings during and after you’ve completed the Design Cycle
Discuss possible improvements that could be made to the product or to the process undertaken to arrive at the product

Type out task 2 using a word processor

use the Evaluate checklist to confirm your work

Evaluate Stage

<![if !vml]><![endif]>
Evaluate is Criterion E of MYP Technology.  Work for this criterion leads to the testing of the product and a sufficient reflection of one’s own efforts, and how well the work done fits into the Design Cycle.
Now that your product is created, your will now be tasked to test your product using the test or questions you’ve written during the Create stage.

Activity 1
Look at the following business card product completed. Use the table below to conduct a test for the card by adding test question, assessing the questions then adding comments. A sample has been done for you

This is one part of the evaluation that is evaluating the product in an objective manner. There are other parts of evaluation they include
-performance at each stage of the design cycle
-suggested improvements
-impact of the product on the society

Based on the two evaluations comment on the success of the product?

Create Stage Summative

You will now create your chosen design based on the budget problem you stated in the design brief. You will also ensure that your plan is followed.

Your product should be as realistic as possible. The prices of the different items in your budget can be obtained from the internet.

Ensure that different excel techniques are evident in your product for example; appropriate use of different formulas and functions, different formatting techniques applied, appropriate graphs generated, appropriate images used, proper use of borders and shading e.t.c. The more appropriate techniques and skills are applied the better.

You are also expected to document your progress in the Process Journal. The process journal should have screenshots showing what you have achieved each time you work on the product.

Create Checklist

o     I have created a product to the best of my ability, one that is almost similar to the chosen design and with different appropriate excel techniques applied.

o     PROCESS JOURNAL entries – I have included several screenshots and briefly stated my progress and challenges encountered each time I worked on the product.

Assessment Criteria

0

The student does not reach a standard described by any of the descriptors given below.

1-2

The student follows the plan and creates at least part of a budget.

3-4

The student uses appropriately some techniques of the software. The student follows the plan and states any changes made, thus resulting in a budget of good quality.

5-6

The student properly uses appropriately most techniques of the software. The student follows the plan and gives reasons for any changes made, thus resulting in a budget of very good quality.

Plan Stage: Summative

Based on your problem identified in investigate stage for the budget problem in organizing a big event, develop a plan to be followed from the beginning to the end of the product realization.

You plan should have exactly three pages used.

· Page 1 will have the Basic plan or a Gantt chart

· Page 2 will have a logical product process details which includes;

§         Description of activities and techniques/ skills to be used

§         Duration for each stage

§         The resources to be used in each stage

· Page 3 will use half the page to evaluate the plan. Evaluating the plans involves

§         Describing if the time and resources assigned for each step was appropriate. If “yes” provide examples from plan to support that. If “No” suggest what you will do.

§         Suggest some changes that you will make for your design.

Plan Checklist

o   I have developed a clear basic plan or a Gantt chart with all the required details.

o   I have included a process plan describing the activities with skills/techniques, duration, resources and dates for each step.

o   I have evaluated my plan by sharing how appropriate time and resources are in my plan.

Assessment Criteria

0

Has not reached standard of any descriptors below.

1-2

The student produces a Gantt / basic plan, and a plan that contains some details of the steps and/or the resources required.

3-4

The student produces a basic plan/Gantt and a plan that contains a number of clear steps that include resources and time. The student tries to evaluate the plan.

5-6

The student produces a basic plan/Gantt and a plan that contains a number of very clear steps that describe the use of resources and time. The student evaluates the plan and suggests some changes the design.

Plan formative

Plan the product/ solution
-devise, with guidance, a series of logical steps to create the product/solution
-construct a plan to create the product/solution that makes effective use of resources and time
-analyse the plan and explain the need for any modifications to the design.

Information
James wants to create a spreadsheet file which will show his expenses. He has five days do to so and he need to check out with his mum how much money the mother will send. Once the mother tells him the amount he will develop a budget on the items that he needs to get. He already has a list of items and their pictures which he downloaded from the internet. After having all the items in the budget he will adjust it to see what combination of item he will get the best value of. He will then present the budget to the mother to negotiate for money if the money is above the requirements. He will need a computer, a phone to call shops for prices and communicate to the mother, internet to send the spreadsheet home and a colour printer for printing his spreadsheet with pictures of what he wants to buy and a graph showing the prices of eth items and another graph showing the amount of the items to be bought. James has Tuesday 5th to Sunday 10th to complete this work. He is also attending classes so he has only the study time to do this work.

Activity
-Device a series of logical steps to create the spreadsheet.
-Construct a plan for the spreadsheet that will make effective use of the resources and time.
-Analysed the plan and make suggestion for any modification.
