Plan Stage: Summative

Based on your problem identified in investigate stage for the budget problem in organizing a big event, develop a plan to be followed from the beginning to the end of the product realization.

You plan should have exactly three pages used.

· Page 1 will have the Basic plan or a Gantt chart

· Page 2 will have a logical product process details which includes;

§         Description of activities and techniques/ skills to be used

§         Duration for each stage

§         The resources to be used in each stage

· Page 3 will use half the page to evaluate the plan. Evaluating the plans involves

§         Describing if the time and resources assigned for each step was appropriate. If “yes” provide examples from plan to support that. If “No” suggest what you will do.

§         Suggest some changes that you will make for your design.

Plan Checklist

o   I have developed a clear basic plan or a Gantt chart with all the required details.

o   I have included a process plan describing the activities with skills/techniques, duration, resources and dates for each step.

o   I have evaluated my plan by sharing how appropriate time and resources are in my plan.

Assessment Criteria

0

Has not reached standard of any descriptors below.

1-2

The student produces a Gantt / basic plan, and a plan that contains some details of the steps and/or the resources required.

3-4

The student produces a basic plan/Gantt and a plan that contains a number of clear steps that include resources and time. The student tries to evaluate the plan.

5-6

The student produces a basic plan/Gantt and a plan that contains a number of very clear steps that describe the use of resources and time. The student evaluates the plan and suggests some changes the design.

Plan formative

Plan the product/ solution
-devise, with guidance, a series of logical steps to create the product/solution
-construct a plan to create the product/solution that makes effective use of resources and time
-analyse the plan and explain the need for any modifications to the design.

Information
James wants to create a spreadsheet file which will show his expenses. He has five days do to so and he need to check out with his mum how much money the mother will send. Once the mother tells him the amount he will develop a budget on the items that he needs to get. He already has a list of items and their pictures which he downloaded from the internet. After having all the items in the budget he will adjust it to see what combination of item he will get the best value of. He will then present the budget to the mother to negotiate for money if the money is above the requirements. He will need a computer, a phone to call shops for prices and communicate to the mother, internet to send the spreadsheet home and a colour printer for printing his spreadsheet with pictures of what he wants to buy and a graph showing the prices of eth items and another graph showing the amount of the items to be bought. James has Tuesday 5th to Sunday 10th to complete this work. He is also attending classes so he has only the study time to do this work.

Activity
-Device a series of logical steps to create the spreadsheet.
-Construct a plan for the spreadsheet that will make effective use of the resources and time.
-Analysed the plan and make suggestion for any modification.

Design Summative

You must have enjoyed the design process.

The weather Charts, Graphs, Graphics  and use of formulas.

The linked cells and Conditional formatted cells

The search of different types of phones to match the prices.

The search of prices the match the model given.

All these formative activities were to prepare you for the design process.

You did two designed and analyzed each against the design specs.

You finally selected one and Justified why you though this was the best.

Now is the time to apply the skills to you project.

The Design Summative will be used to guide the process.

Design Formative Activity 2

Develop two colorful designs using a spreadsheet to prepare a report for a mobile shop that sold the following products in December 2012.

20 Nokia Model 1* each @ 45000

15 Nokia Model 2* each @ 65000

16 Samsung Galaxy each @*

12 Samsung model 2* each@*

7 iphone model 1* each@*

8 iphone model 2* each@*

34 Idios  each @ *

4000  Safaricom 500 Credit

1000 Airtel 1000 credit

4000 Airtel 500 Credit

* indicates that you search for prices or the models.

Each design should be appealing and showing important information.

The design should not be limited to the following

¨    Images of phone

¨    Borders

¨    Coloring of fonts and shading or background

¨    Sorting using a column of choice

¨    A graph for particular information

Orientation of text etc

.

                                                  i)  Shade each column to have different colors for fonts and background

ii)  Identify the appropriate position to show the averages readings for each column

iii)  Insert an appropriate image in the background for the above data

iv)  Change the orientations for the months to  slant

                                               v)  Sort the data using normal temperature in ascending order.

vi)  Position one chart to the left and the other to the right of the table.

b)    The data in the table above can be captured in a different way (different design) Use the spreadsheet software to demonstrate how the above data can be captured differently.  Change the processes I) to v) in this design.

Between design A and design B which one do you think presents the information better and why?

Design Stage: Smart Cells.

In this stage you will be expected to come up with some designs that measure up with design specification. You will compare each design against the design specification and then select one design and explain why that is the best choice.

There are different designs or ways of capturing data in a spreadsheet

Different designs will capture the following differently

¨    Graphs

¨    Formulas used

¨    Shading

¨    Images

¨    Autoshapes used

¨    Links

¨    Orientation of text

¨    sorting

INVESTIGATE SUMMATIVE FINAL

Investigate final touches.

During the lesson today we are doing our final touches on INCESTIGATE SUMMATIVE.

Please note the Summative must be handed in on HARD COPY @ 11.10 on Thursday 17 January 2012

Use the checklist to ensure that you have addressed all the points
