My Identity Our Identity the Kenya Classroom
43 students from my three classes Y9 A M and K took part in this project. I was teaching website designs and I wanted to get some content for my students to work on. When I checked through the projects handbook I settled for this project because my strand was cultures and I found the project matching the demands of my unit. I did not know what I was facing but for sure the experience was good. Said become my co-teacher in my class.
The experience was very enriching since we all discovered our cultures in the class. Some of the students in my class did not know their cultures properly. The project exposed them to know them. Furthermore parents and grandparents were involved as the student had to find out more about themselves. During the parents teacher meetings the parents talked about it.
One of the requirements I gave my students was to learn one culture from the forum. This was very interesting as the students choose different cultures to learn from. At the end the students were able to learn from each others as well as from the forum. The website they made was the talk of the school and the parents were very excited.
To capture it all my students learnt from two teachers myself and Said and they were exposed to opportunity to learn from the class because of the online sharing and to learn from others online as global citizen. I as a teacher learnt a lot on how to intergrate IEARN project to my lesson. It was explorative and engaging something I never thought would happen. I am glad and grateful for the facilitators, thank you for being in my class.
