Design Stage -Formative

In the design stage you are required to;
a) Generate good quality designs for your product
b) Measure each of the designs against the designs specifications
c) Justify your chosen design while evaluating it critically against the design specification

Designs

a) The examples in the links below show examples of designs for different product.

- What is your observation in all the above designs?

b) How then do you measure each design against the design specification?
Create a table and list some design specifications and rate each design spec for any of design above.

Activity: Use your book or any software to draw the designs for the task below. (20 min)
Sony Company is interested in external laptop speakers for their new laptop model. You have therefore been requested to design two very good speakers designs.
a) Use the design specs below to guide your sketching.

Design Specs

They should be two, which is one pair.

They should fit in a small case

Can be of any shape

Should not be more than 20 cms in length, width or height

The pair should be able to fit in each other when packaging.

b) Compare the two designs using the designs specs. Which one meet most of the design specs requirements?
c) So, which will be your final choice to submit to Sony Company and why? Prepare a detailed justification that you will use to defend your chosen design.

According to me, it is a good idea to start from a basic design and then build up on them by adding colours to make the design more detailed. Also, i realized that you can have many different parts and different views of the same design on one page. This way you will know how the product will look from all angles. Furthermore, most of the designs had labels which also helps when testing the design against the specifications. Then we also had the very advanced designs made by experts that gave me an idea for 3D models. The only problem was that my product will be a 2D objects as it is a website. But overall, I got many ideas on how to make my website designs clear and detailed and creative.

MY OBSERVATION IN ALL THE DESIGNS
In all the sites i that i have visited , i have noticed that there are different design or sketches that one can choose from.there are also labels for most of the parts of the designs which makes it easier to know where anything is /goes.there are different views(front, back and side ways) on the same design which shows the viewer the details of the sketch.most of the designs are in 3D format but my designs aren't going to be the same because its a website. these sites gave me ideas of where to start and now i have some knowledge to hold onto.

from the designs given i observed that the sketches has to be very perscise and also has to be very detailed .i also observed that you can first sketch the object then color it for example in the design about the cell phone one the key steps the sketcher did was first he sketched it out then he colored it .in another observation as of what i observed was that the sketches have to be very detailed and very specific.also if we are skteching we have to label the key parts for the sketch for example in the design of the laptop the battery and other key features of the laptop had to be labeled . to ease the view of the person viewing the design.i also observed that almost all the designs shown in the different links were 3D and for that i was able to understand how to draw 3D models.however if i were to connect this to my website sketch it would not help due to the fact that the website is a 2D model.however using this designs it has help make me get the different skills in order to make my design as sucessful as possible.

My observation for all those designs is that they are very creative and they are mostly for electronic items like phones, laptops, motorbikes, mouses, etc. They are a lot of same designs shown from different angles. Some have design specs written together with them while some don’t. They are very creative and new designs like the folding phones and the sliding laptops gaming mouses and scooters. One same design can be shown from very different angles to show each and every part of it for a detailed look, like from the bottom, from the top, from the back and front and from the side. I learnt on how to make my designs and clear ideas about it.

From all the designs i observed how each of the designs were made from scratch slowly going into detail. I learnt that how looking at an design or model from different angles brings more clarity and understanding. From the designs, i learn't that the better you make your designs, the more it will help you in the create process as the designs would show you all that you need, where each of the things need to go and how your product will look like. The designs also had labels, which made me interpret the data even better. I realized how to present the features of my product in my designs and how making multiple designs on the same product help you to have a variety of choices so compare each of the designs, therefore you can pick the best to use for the final product, which will give you time on picking the design that standed out the most and thinking over about some of the improvements you can make to the chosen design and what ideas you can borrow from the other designs. In general, i got many ideas on how to make my website designs clear, organized, understandable and creative.

All the websites that I visited, had great designs.By looking at the designs, one would easily know how the product looks from all angles. The designs in most of the websites were well labelled which helped one understand the design properly and which can also help when testing against the design specifications. They were also drawn in detail and overall they were really nice. All of them were drawn in 3D and in a very professional manner. These ideas may not help me while making the designs for the websites since my designs will be drawn in 2D, but the knowledge that I gained today, will surely help me in the future!

AKIL MEGHJIS OBSERVATIONS:
from looking at all the designs in the given websites i have learnt that the design does not have to be perfect because its a design basically a rough draft of what the final product will look like for example the HTC one had a rough design and later on on the website they showed the final product and if you compare the two they look similar just that the final product looks more realistic but it is the same design as the (draft) designs.
i also learnt that designs dont have to look perfect there just based on the design specifications. i also learnt that when youre designing you focus on mostly the shape because the colour is not needed because you ail include that later once the shape of the final product or design is complete and most designs dont include colour apart from the HTC one and the cell phone design although they have a few designs without but all the design shown focus mostly on the shape and thats the DESIGN!!!

What I have observed from all the "design sites" is that all of the designs are on electronic items such as laptops, phones, tablets and much more. These designs are shown from different angles and there are a variety of designs for one object and they are all mostly in 3D. I realized how to work on my designs by working along with specifications.

What i observed on all the design sites is all about technology. The artists have drawn laptops, phones, game mouses, etc. It is very easy to see that the artists have put their designs in different angles. For example looking at the side of the laptop, looking from a bird view of the laptop, etc. I also observed that their are worked against the design specifications. This ideas will help me when designing my website.

I have observed the various designs and have noted that these designs are almost in the form of the required steps to get to the final design. I noted that it is a good idea to have the designs simple at the beginning and then add on to it whatever else that may be required to build it up to the final design. The fact that most of the designs were labelled was very helpful in understanding what goes where. Although the designs were all in 3-D and my design is going to be in 2-D as it is a website, the designs were very helpful in assisting me to learn to plan how i am going to create my design from simple to more improved and advanced.

in all the websites that i have visited, what i have noticed about them is the fact that they all give detailed sketches that show the image in different perspectives. This is valid for a person with a tangible thing but for my website i just learnt that the edges matter and to show to show the outlines properly

from all the websites and sketches that I have seen, specifically liked the way that there were different angles of the product in the form of sketches. I also learnt that the more the detailed sketch the better because when you are making the product it is easier for you to confirm what falls where even making your work easier

From all the sites that I've visited I've noticed that the designs are indicated and have color, the products are taken from different sides. I've noticed that the products are shown on both inside and outside, some have color. Some are shown in 3D and some are shown step by step.

I observed that it is good to make your first sketch and plan before coming to the final and I realized that the sketches are measured and explained, so before making your product you have to make a plan using your design specs. You can make every sketch different but it is still the same product, it's just that you are observing it from all the sides. So now I have more ideas, about, making my website more intersting and attractive. But for that I need to plan nicely before starting my product.

what i have observed is that all the designs were very good and were well designed for the topic. i also sow that the designs were three dee so the detile are more and it is better to understand the design. also i sow that the design were not just one they were many more design so the right one can be picked so there is no mistakes in the finale product. the other thing that i also sow was that when the finale design is done they sketch the some design again and again in different angles so that the product is seen in all angles to know how the whole product looks in a life vision so that the finale product is properly made.

what I have observed from all that I have seen is that the people who were sketching were sketching the the same sketches but from completely different angles. If I was to look at measuring each design I would measure them using the design specification and I will if everything is there.
